Engagement Thursday

24 May 2012

Wedding Week starts Monday, on our 1 year anniversary, and I thought I would preface that with our engagement story, followed by the official engagement shots tomorrow!

The night Micah and I got engaged was a disaster, plain and simple.

First of all, it was the week I started birth control. I was a little whacked out. I had to pee all the time, I was extra moody, and my boobs hurt. We left town under the premise that we were going to a friend's birthday dinner that night in Dallas and left town that afternoon for the five hour drive.

Micah had been acting incredibly antsy and rushed the entire day. He hustled me out the door and was frustrated with any delay. I wasn't sure what his deal was, but just tried to not hock him off. I had to stop a couple of times for bathroom breaks and such, and he just kept getting more tense and was texting up a storm. It eventually led to a pretty intense argument that ended in me saying "If you're going to treat me like this every time you're stressed, I don't know if we should get married."

He wouldn't let me look at his phone or play the games (I'm a Doodlejump master), and I knew he up to something, but definitely not this. We got into Dallas around sunset and hit major traffic. He started acting more and more psychotic and driving erratically, and I started to worry something was really wrong. I still didn't have any clue what was about to happen! He was rushing through traffic and we finally stopped and parked at a park in uptown.

As I stepped out of the car to put on my heels, I stepped into a large patch of stickers, and spent the next 5 minutes picking them out of my foot. We walked up the sidewalk and the smell of pot wafted through the air. He started walking us through the park and was having a problem with something, looking around and stopping a lot. I thought he was lost and parked at the wrong park, but there was obviously not a restaurant close by. He stopped walking and said "This isn't working" and my heart dropped. I thought he was upset with me because we got to Dallas late and thought he was breaking it off.

Apparently, we were supposed to go to a different park where he planned a sunset proposal on a bridge overlooking the water. Both of our families were there waiting for us, ready with cameras to capture the moment. We missed sunset by a long shot due to my multiple pit stops fueled by hormone induced borderline incontinence.

He grabbed my hands and said, "I was looking for a more well lit area to do this, but Brittany, you're the love of my life and I want to spend the rest of my life with you." He got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him. I was still in such shock that I didn't know how to respond, so I got down on my knees with him and finally said 'Um yeah, of course.'

We then met up with family and promptly got lost trying to find the restaurant Micah had reserved to celebrate at.

But it was all worth it, once you see the rest. Stay tuned.

  12. This story is amazing! Can't wait to read the rest. I saw on your latest post (for some reason it wouldn't let me comment on that one) that you like New Braunfels. I LOVE New Braunfels! I have a few friends in the area and my husband plays there fairly often. We live in TN but we always say if we had to move we'd move to New Braunfels. Gruene Hall is officially my "happy place." Sean (my husband) will be playing at Whitewater in June if you're in the area... I'm hoping to be there too!

  13. Hehe, I love this story! At least it's a day you'll never forget :) Dave proposed to me while we were laying by a creek in San Angelo, TX and right after we saw a turtle get "used" and then abandoned by another turtle...hilarious.
