Big Girl Pants Be Gone

15 May 2012

Today, I put on my big girl pants, and actually believed it. Then I changed my mind and went for a skirt. No need for pants to tell me I'm a big girl anymore.

After many, many, many years, I am a paid woman. After nearly a month of working, I get my first paycheck today. Seeing big girl numbers, not 'Starbucks barista' wage made my heart flutter a little. Yes, my work is rewarding. But getting paid to do such a rewarding thing just makes it a wee bit sweeter.

Having to be a starving grad student pushed me to hone my thrifting skills, as well as helped me discover unique resources like Craigslist and estate sales for everything from home decor, sweet furniture, even my car. I am thankful for those times that make me appreciate the 'fruits of my labor' and teaching me that style doesn't have to come store bought.

In other news, I'm about to tear through Anthropologie in a dollar sign induced spending craze.

Stately Design

26 April 2012

Shirt: Old Navy (2012)  Skirt: Gap Outlet (2012)  Belt: Forever 21 (2012)
Wedges: Payless (2012)  Necklace: Forever 21 (2009)  Bangles: Forever 21 (2012)
I saw this wall while heading to my neighborhood Goodwill a few weeks ago, and decided I needed to make it mine.

So I headed over to the Texas Department of Public Safety and took these photos. Yes, behind this wall, tickets are processed, ideas for snazzy new street signs are composed and a cop mannequin stands in all his glory, scaring the living daylights out of innocent photo takers. Like Micah.

To cut costs, it seems that the DPS has employed a dummy cop (no pun intended) to stand guard at the front, scaring off the baddies who have come for justice in the off hours. Or girls in skirts wanting to take a pretty picture. I think even in wedges I can outrun that guy.

Glutton For Color

19 April 2012

Dress: Issac Mizrahi (2008)  Sweater: Target (2009)
Belt: Forever 21 (2012)  Shoes: Payless (2012)  Bangles: Forever 21 (2012)
Nail Color: Jaded by Revlon
I love this dress.

It caught my eye the minute I saw it on the rack, and has been one of  my favorite pieces ever since. There are so many different ways to wear this, and pairing it with this short sleeved sweater and bright belt add more dimension and allowed me to work it as a skirt.

This was my Easter Sunday outfit, and I felt like a technicolor Easter egg. And it felt fantastic. I actually paired it with raspberry heels once I got to looking at it more, and decided that I just needed thismuch more color.

I'm a glutton for color. Sue me.

Work In Progress

03 March 2012

So here it goes. First outfit post.

Now, don't get all a twitter- this was a "Oh shoot, I'm mostly dressed and should probably try out the new camera" photo session. This was also after a long day of running errands and I'm not exactly my most... fresh. The hubs was in a bit of a hurry to go so it was a quick few shots in the backyard and then we were off.

Sweatpants of Shame

17 February 2012

In my quest to achieve style purgatory, somewhere in between the runway and the gutter, I found myself sitting in the gutter with mud on my face.

It's Friday, its cold, its rainy and I'm lazy. So here I sit in Central Market, having someone else cook my food so that I may eat it in style jail: my living room. Joining me in jail will be serial killers, drug dealers and the sun of Miami. Oh, I forgot to mention I'll be watching Dexter until I drop tonight.

Why style jail? Because I somehow rationalized that unwashed gray sweatpants, Ugg style boots left over from my freezing West Texas days, an old work tshirt and my school fleece jacket would be acceptable because the weather sucks.

A Sunday Kind of Love: Recent Buys

12 February 2012

Since the camera hunt is going to be a bit delayed, I'm posting some items that I have recently added to my closet. My goal is to pick things I would have NEVER given a second look before.
White is something I naturally stray away from because I feel like I usually blend with the shirt. The print was just too cute to pass up!

White Bird Top- Old Navy (gifted- Thanks Mom!)

A blue jean shirt? I live in Texas, where they wear them with blue jeans and boots for the fancy nights out. This is so soft and comfortable, and surprisingly thin, so it keeps you covered AND cool!
